FMHS Speech/Debate Team Represents State of Texas at Princeton University

The FMHS Speech/Debate Team competed at the Princeton Classic, hosted by Princeton University December 4-6.  Senior Amy Chen won first place in Extemporaneous Speaking.  Senior Scott Hancox and Sophomore Alessandro Pauri cae in sixth and seventh in that event respectively.  Sophomore Clancy Taylor was a finalist in Legislative Debate while Junior Kevin Alacantar and Sophomore Rahul Gaikwad advanced to the semi-final round.   In Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Sophomore Chase Hamilton was awarded 10th place speaker.  The team as a whole secured 10th place in the team sweepstakes at one of the top national high school tournaments in the country.

The Baker Hostetler Debate Classic is a razor-sharp competition featuring students from Denver Public Schools who thrive on uncertainty and go for the kill.

On the afternoon before the debate, students from Martin Luther King Jr. Early College gathered for their last practice in the school library.

"I've never had a debate that was easy, where I knew I would win," said Danny Nguyen, a junior. "They're all pretty much intense."
