Chetan Hertzig has been involved in Lincoln-Douglas debate for more than a decade. In 2009, he founded a debate team at Harrison High School in New York, where he teaches global studies and AP U.S. government.

Josh Roberts

Josh debated for four years at Northland Christian School in Houston, Texas. He was the champion of The Bronx Round Robin, The Victory Briefs Tournament, The NDCA Championships, The Iowa Round Robin and Grapevine. Josh was a finalist at Apple Valley and TFA State. He finished 3rd at The Glenbrooks, Emory, Bronx and The Harvard Round Robin. Josh was recognized as first speaker at Greenhill, The Bronx Round Robin, The Greenhill Round Robin, St. Marks, The Iowa Round Robin and Grapevine. In addition to auto-qualifying to the 2011 TOC by reaching the octofinals as a junior, Josh has earned 11 bids to the TOC. A 3-time participant at The MBA Round Robin, Josh became the only sophomore in the history of the tournament to place in the Top 5 when he finished 4th in 2009.

Catherine Tarsney

Catherine debated for St Louis Park High School in Minnesota for six years. She qualified to TOC four times, earning a total of 28 bids, and reaching outrounds as a junior, and winning as a senior. She also won Greenhill, Apple Valley, Blake, Dowling (twice), and Iowa Caucus (twice), and appeared in the final rounds of Valley, Omaha Westside, the Dowling Round Robin, the Voices Round Robin, the Lone Star Round Robin, and the Bronx Round Robin. She was top speaker at Bronx, Dowling, Apple Valley, Glenbrooks, and Blake.

She currently attends the University of Chicago, and is an assistant coach for The Hockaday School in Dallas, Texas. Her students have reached outrounds at numerous national tournaments, earning bids at St. Marks, Meadows, and UT.

Jonathan Alston

Cherian Koshy

Cherian Koshy is currently the Director of Development at the National Forensic League.

A former L-D coach with more than 11 years of workshop experience, including previously directing an L-D workshop, Cherian coached the 2008 & 2009 TOC winner from Apple Valley.   The 2008 and 2009 was the only individual to ever win back to back championships.

Shane Stafford

Shane has over thirty years of competitive academic debate coaching and believes that all formats of debate have value. He has coached Lincoln-Douglas, policy, public forum, congressional debate, and speech.

His program at Blake fosters nationally competitive debate in Lincoln-Douglas, policy, public forum and congressional debate. In 2010, Blake was the first program to qualify students in all four formats of debate to the Tournament of Champions in the same year.   

Shane has coached Lincoln-Douglas students to late elimination rounds at the Greenhill Fall Classic, the Glenbrooks, the Dowling Catholic Paradigm, the Valley Mid-America Cup, the Wake Forest National Earlybird, the Lexington Winter Invitational, and the Harker Invitational. Stafford’s students have received invites to a host of round robins, including: Greenhill, Bronx, Harvard, Victory Briefs (champion), Dowling, UPenn, Voices, and the Iowa Seniors Round Robin. In 2010, he coached the champion of the

Minnesota Lincoln-Douglas State Tournament. In policy debate, Shane has coached champions at Wake Forest, St. Mark’s, and MBA, and coached teams to late semifinals and finals at tournaments such as Emory, the Glenbrooks, Harvard, and the TOC.
